Kai (they/them/theirs) is so excited to be back for a second summer at WCEL!
Kai is a white settler of Florentine and French ancestry who was born and raised on the territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples. Last year, Kai had the privilege of supporting a number of WCEL's program areas as a summer student, including Climate Change, Green Communities, and Environmental Legal Aid. They have also worked (in various capacities) with UVic's Environmental Law Centre, the Victoria Trans ID Clinic, and RAVEN (Respecting Aboriginal Values and Environmental Needs). They are currently in their fourth and final year of the Joint Degree Program in Canadian Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders (JD/JID) at UVic.
Prior to venturing into the world of law, Kai earned both a BFA and an MFA in Creative Writing. Their young adult play, Duecentomila, was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award and was recently translated into Italian and Portuguese.
When they're not working, Kai is usually either asleep or in the forest. Either way, their dog is probably with them.
