Chantal Bacchus (she/her/hers) is thrilled to join the West Coast Environmental Law team as a summer law student. Born in Toronto, Chantal spent her middle school years in Tokyo before moving to the West Coast of Canada for high school. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a Master’s in Journalism, both of which nourished her love of research and writing. A self-professed forever-student, Chantal is always seeking new lessons, perspectives and opportunities for growth.
Prior to her law school journey, Chantal had the privilege of calling Haida Gwaii home for the better part of a decade. The many lessons offered by the people, land and waters profoundly shaped her commitment to Indigenous rights, environmental justice, and marine protection. Ultimately, these teachings are what drew her to pursue a career in law.
Chantal firmly believes in the importance of intersectional understandings – which underscore the interconnectedness of all things and ultimately (she feels) facilitate better, more meaningful and sustainable work. Chantal approaches her life with curiosity, thoughtfulness, and a deep commitment to building respectful, collaborative relationships. She truly believes there are lessons for us everywhere and in everyone, if we would only slow down long enough to pay attention.
Chantal is honoured and excited to spend the summer learning from and contributing to the exceptional legal and advocacy work of the West Coast team.
